Invest in young people it lasts a lifetime

  • Jill Scott ex Boldon CA and current Manchester City and England Woman’s footballer was awarded an M.B.E. and congratulations are extended to her by this association on gaining this prestigious honour. 

     

    Pat Johnson from Bishop Auckland Table Tennis Club was awarded the Table – Tennis National Volunteer of the Year award for her dedicated service to Table – Tennis.

     

    Tommy Ward from Birtley ABC won his World title boxing eliminator and is now in line to contest for the World Title. 

     

    Pat McCormack from Birtley ABC had a superb year which saw him win welterweight Gold at the European Games and a Silver medal at the World Championships in Russia. He also won the prestigious Ken Jones Award for Best Amateur Boxer of the Year for 2019 presented by the Boxing Writers Club of Great Britain at the Savoy Hotel in London.

     

    Auckland YCC were recognised with an award from Durham Constabulary for their excellent Street Games project which saw anti-social behaviour on the local estate cut by 95% within a year.

     

    Steph Houghton MBE - ex Boldon CA and current Manchester City and England Woman’s Captain was presented with the North East Football Writers Personality of the Year Award at the North – East Football Writers Dinner at Ramside Hall Hotel in Durham.

     

    James Colling – DABGC Board Member – Is a highly qualified Athletics official and continues to gain experience at local, national and international level. He was the Technical Manager for the World Athletic Indoor Tour held in Glasgow. In his position he signed off the new World Male pole vault record by Armand Duplantis, a 20 year old Swedish competitor at a new record height of 6.18m. He was also Officer in Charge (Technical Manager) at the World Transplant Games held at Gateshead. In addition he was a senior official at the IAAF World Athletic Championships in Doha. He was also looked upon for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics but due to the coronavirus crisis this did not take place.

     

    Tony Jefferies – ex Sunderland ABC - 2008 Olympic Bronze medallist and undefeated professional boxer, now runs a highly successful gym and personal trainer business in Los Angeles USA. He has recently linked with the undefeated World Champion Floyd Mayweather.

     

    Lucy Bronze – First capped at international level by Paul Smith (Boldon CA) while with the U16 England CYP team,  has continued to excel in Women’s Football being the first English woman to win the European Footballer of the Year award whilst a member of the Lyon team which also won the French league title as well as the European Cup.
