Over 250 people, including the Lord Lieutenant of County Durham, Mrs Sue Snowdon, the High Sheriff, Mr Peter Candler and the Mayors of both Darlington and Durham supported DABGC on the 86th anniversary of their Presentation of Awards evening on the 23rd September at Ramside Hall Hotel.
The evening was held to acknowledge the outstanding achievements by the young people of County Durham and the immense contribution of the volunteers in the area. 36 National champions picked up their awards from various sports including athletics, football, boxing, cross country and table- tennis while 21 volunteers were recognised for their contribution to youth provision in the area.
The evening was opened by our President, Mr Frank Nicholson and then moved onto awarding the young achievers in their chosen sports and activities as well as acknowledging the outstanding commitment of the volunteers.
A special award was given to Mr Paul Smith from Boldon CA for his years of devotion in raising the profile of girls football in County Durham. He coached England midfielder, Jill Scott, who sent a video message to Paul on the night thanking him for all he had done over the years. Karla Fish from Consett Young Firefighters also received an award for helping save a life through her quick thinking and knowledge of first aid.
